MAKE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE BAILIFFS

Contact with bailiff officers can be scary - but remember, they have no power over you outside of your property.

You can learn more about bailiffs and how to deal with them by reading our FAQ HERE.

There are ways to come to an agreement with bailiff companies to protect your assets. For example - bailiffs may not take any item that you need for your income and employment. These items could include a vehicle used for your workplace commute. Office equipment such as a laptop or workman's tools may be essential for you to earn your wages too, so cannot be seized.

Use this letter template to construct a message to a bailiff company that explains your situation and how you will not allow bailiffs to take possessions.

Please note that the bailiff company is under no obligation to agree to the terms of this letter. However, any misconduct engaged in by the bailiffs may give you cause for an official complaint, and potentially legal recourse.

You will need:

  • A valid reason to keep any possessions that could be seized.
  • Your account/reference number.
  • A bailiff's notice.
  • A budget to afford a monthly payment.
